Siti Hajar binti Latif

"My mother passed away without a will and I had no idea where to begin. The solicitor at Amanat Law explained the probate process in very plain terms — what we needed to prepare, roughly how long things would take, and what costs to expect. Nothing was rushed, which I appreciated a great deal given the circumstances."

"I had been putting off making a will for years — mainly because I found the idea of it daunting. Booking an appointment with Amanat Law turned out to be much simpler than I expected. The solicitor was patient and did not make me feel foolish for not understanding the legal side. The will was done within two weeks."

"The estate planning session helped me see things I had not considered. My husband and I came in thinking it was just about a will, but the solicitor helped us think through what happens if one of us passes before our children are adults. We left with a much clearer picture and a plan we both feel settled about."

The solicitor handling our file was accessible and responded to emails within a day. The whole process was handled with care."

"I came for estate planning advice after my sister mentioned it was something we should have done years ago. The solicitor walked me through options clearly and was honest about what would and would not be useful in my situation. The fee was as stated — no additions. Straightforward and professional."

"I was referred here by a colleague and I am glad I went. Making a will felt like something I kept avoiding, partly because I did not know what to expect from the appointment. It turned out to be a calm, unhurried conversation. The solicitor asked sensible questions and the document was exactly what I had in mind."

How we have helped

Probate for a complex multi-property estate

Duration: approx. 9 months  |  Service: Probate Support

The Situation

A Kuching family approached us after their father passed away. The estate included three residential properties, a savings account in two banks, and a small business holding. The deceased had not left a will, which meant the family needed both a grant of letters of administration and guidance on how to distribute assets fairly.

Our Approach

We prepared the administration application and gathered the necessary supporting documents, handling correspondence with the High Court, both banks, and the Companies Commission. The family was updated at each stage — particularly around court listing dates, which can be unpredictable — so they were never left guessing about where things stood.

Outcome

Letters of administration were granted within eight months. All three properties were transferred to the named beneficiaries without dispute, and the bank accounts were released within a further six weeks. The family expressed relief that the process had been clearer and more manageable than they had feared at the outset.

Estate planning for a couple with young children

Duration: approx. 3 weeks  |  Service: Estate Planning Counsel + Will Drafting

The Situation

A married couple in their early forties came to us with two children under ten and a jointly owned home in Kuching. They had never made wills and were unsure about appointing guardians, how to handle the property if one or both of them passed, and whether a trust would be useful for the children.

Our Approach

We began with an estate planning session for both of them together, going through their priorities and the key decisions they needed to make. After agreeing on a structure — including a testamentary trust for the children until age 21 — we drafted individual wills for each spouse, with clear guardian and trustee appointments.

Outcome

Both wills were executed within three weeks of the initial consultation. The couple left with written wills, a summary of their planning decisions, and copies stored safely. They described the process as reassuring — particularly that they had been able to make each decision themselves without feeling steered in any direction.
